So where am I going exactly? (apart from insane)… Here’s the gist of it.
The fun starts in Nairobi, Kenya where I will be volunteering for a month. I’ll be attempting to teach English to some beautiful African bubs. Though I think they’ll be the ones teaching me, and lets be honest, I’ll probably just spend the month playing and oogling the cute babies.
KENYA, UGANDA, TANZANIA, MALAWI, ZAMBIA, ZIMBABWE, BOTSWANA, NAMIBIA & SOUTH AFRICA
I will then spend the next 56 days mostly camping and travelling South from Nairobi to Cape Town, and doing some amazing things like a gorilla trek in Uganda, visiting the Masai Mara, going sand boarding in Namibia and bungy jumping in Zimbabwe (just kidding, I sooooooo won’t be bungy jumping).
PLAYA DEL CARMEN, MEXICO
After 3 months of cold showers, peeing in the bush and sleeping on the ground, I figured I would be in need of some major R & R.. so I have booked myself into a nice hotel on the beach, where I can eat and drink and shower to my heart’s content. Check out the hotel I’ll be staying in at http://en.occidentalhotels.com/grand/Xcaret.asp. NICE…
My home for the next 3 months will be Casa Hoy, a volunteer house 85km South of Mexico City. Putting my volunteer hat back on, I’ll be working in orphanages and basically helping out wherever I can. I’m sure these 3 months will probably be some of the best and worst of the trip. On a lighter note however, it’s also here that I will most likely gain 20 kilos overdosing on Mexican food.
MEXICO, GUATEMALA AND COSTA RICA
I’ll spend the next 7 odd weeks travelling solo around Mexico, down to Guatemala (where I hope to take Spanish lessons) and then finishing up in Costa Rica.
***CARNIVAL*** RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL
Need I say more? February 8th 2013 marks the commencement of a week of shenanigans, samba dancing, football games and favelas, and I can’t wait.
BRAZIL, ARGENTINA AND CHILE
Following Carnival, I’ll spend the next 2 months travelling through these 3 amazing countries. Experiencing everything from the Iguazu Falls to the Perito Moreno Glaciers. I’ll be camping along the way… silly me… but I have no doubt I’ll have a ball.
Time for some volunteering again. I’ll spend one month in Cusco working in childcare and helping street children. I’ll also be living with a local Peruvian family during this time. After the month is up, I’ll be let loose for a few weeks to visit Machu Picchu and explore the rest of Peru.
Here I’ll spend another month teaching English to the community and children of Quito. Like Peru, I’ll have a few weeks afterwards to explore more of Ecuador. And how many people can say they’ve celebrated their 30th birthday this way? June 28th 2013. Shortly afterwards it’s here that I’ll say goodbye to Latin America before heading home.
SIDE NOTE: COLOMBIA
I think I may need to change the name of this blog to ‘from Africa to Colombia’ because I have been thinking seriously of cutting Ecuador short and heading up to Colombia as the last leg of my trip. I’ve heard too many good things about it, but as a traveller, where do you stop? there’s always somewhere else you want to go.
