Follow me as I blog my way through 12 months of travel, 20 countries, 2 volunteer programs, 44,000 miles, over 20 flights, countless chicken bus rides and 365 wonderful work-free days.

ABOUT ME

Hi. I’m Hayley.

I’m 28 and currently living in sunny Queensland, Australia,

but not for long… pretty soon I’ll be homeless

I initially developed this blog so that friends and family can follow me and keep up to date with the trouble I’ve gotten myself into. But in my research for all things Africa and Latin America I stumbled across some pretty cool blogs that I’m really glad I found. Also as I am doing quite a bit of volunteering during the year, I thought it would be great tool to share my experience with future volunteers who are as anxious about it as I was going into it.

So for those of you who don’t know me…

When I was 21, my then boyfriend talked me into a 3 week holiday to Bali, Indonesia. It was fun – I got a great tan, bought some cheap dvd’s, but it wasn’t until a year or so later when we decided to move to London and travel around Europe that I truly fell in love with travel and everything it has to offer.

Since then I have travelled to more than 8 countries on my own. (yeah alone.. we broke up shortly after returning home from Europe). And it was the best thing that ever happened to me.

Where I’ve been so far…

Indonesia, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, England, France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, The Netherlands, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, The Grand Canyon Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Memphis, New Orleans, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Washington DC, Pennsylvania, New York, Boston, Quebec City, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Whistler, Kamloops, Vernon, Banff, Jasper, China, Thailand, Laos and Egypt airport (might tell you that story one day).

Where I’m going on this trip…

Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Mexico, Guatemala, Nicarugua, Honduras, Costa Rica, Brazil,  Argentina, Chile, Peru and Ecuador.

you really are an insperation!! I am going to Ecuador this summer for a month and even that for me is a huge step. One day I hope I can save up enough and have enough courage to travel for a year as you are about to do! goodluck and I will be following your adventures 🙂

  2. Thanks Danielle. You will have to tell me all about your adventures through Ecuador. I won’t be there until June next year so you’ll be able to give me some advice. Maybe Ecuador will be that push you need to be able to travel for a year?? Thanks for your kind words.

  3. I totally agree with Danielle. I hope I could do this amazing trip one day in the near future. I’ll definitely be trying to get the updates of how ¿your evolves and eventually getting jealous!
I recommend you checking http://www.viventura.com/blog and also their french or german version if you speak those languages so you can read a lot of cools stuff about what you could find in South America and why not maybe adding some other amazing countries to your list like Colombia or Bolivia! Best wishes

  4. Go for it!
